In a repeat of last year’s finals, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) have edged Nkumba University to the Inter- University beach soccer title.

En route their second successive trophy, the Nakawa based University overcame 8 other universities in the two day event held at the shores of Lake Victoria – Lido Beach in Entebbe.
“We deserved this championship after preparing well with the same side that features in the national beach soccer league” MUBS’ coach, Charles Ayiekho told Kawowo Sports.
MUBS’ Road to glory:
MUBS topped group A with 9 points, finishing unbeaten throughout the tourney after an energized start alongside Nkumba University who easily topped group B.
In the group stages, they netted a massive 25 goals in three games over Mutesa 1, KIU and Busoga universities before facing off nemesis, Makerere University in the semi finals.
MUBS, who also produced the top scorer and MVP (Brian Nkuubi) walloped Makerere 8 – 4 in the semis before facing off Nkumba University in a repeat of last year’s duel.

In the finals, Nkumba drew the first blood scoring through Allan Zirimenya’s fierce free kick before Baker Lukooya assisted Nkuubi for the equalizer as the first quarter ended 1 apiece.
Yasser Mugerwa shot Nkumba in the lead once again but Lukooya quickly answered before Mugerwa and Roch Somoka stretched Nkumba’s lead to 4 – 2 by the close of the second quarter.
In the final and decisive quarter of the game, Lukooya registered his name on the scorer’s sheet with a first time volley and got his hat trick moments after Okello had scored an own goal.

Man of the match, Lukooya got his fourth and most important strike for MUBS with the equalizer moments to the full time whistle to force penalties that his team won after Mugerwa missed his third effort to spark wild celebrations.
Nkumba University head coach, Emmanuel Amagu cast the blame game on poor officiation which he reasons left something to be desired.
‘You look at the last penalty awarded to MUBS, it was totally uncalled for. Perhaps, i congratulate MUBS’, Amagu remarked.
The championships were exclusively organized by the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA), FUFA, partially sponsored by Crown Beverages (under the Pepsi brand) and Lido Beach management.
Action between Mutesa 1 Royal University and Busoga University. It ended 4 all in normal time.
The 2015 edition is most likely to take place at Busoga University.
