Uganda Peoples Defence Forces golf team of Five men and two ladies is all set for the 8th World Military Golf Championship in Riffa, Bahrain with the official practice round of all the nations and the opening ceremony which will be officially opened today by Bahrain Defence Forces Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
“The weather conditions are perfect and the course is marvelous,” Corporal Flavia Namakula stated in a facebook message. “The team has settled in and we are ready for the tournament.”
The ladies team has Captain Evelyn Asiimwe and Corporal Namakula who will have two rounds of practice today while the men whose side has the team captain Captain Bob Drani, Captain Aloysius Kimera, Sergeant Yona Ntegerize, Private Timothy Okwi and Private Geofrey Orach Otto, will have a total of six rounds of practice.
The UPDF team is led by Lt General Ivan Koreta and Brigadier Phinehas Katirima. It’s the fourth time that the Uganda army takes part in these world military games which has attracted the armed forces of Thailand, Botswana, Canada, Germany, Namibia, South Africa, United States of America, Pakistan, France, Netherlands,Estonia, Latvia and the hosts Bahrain.
The World Military Golf Championship is organised by Bahrain Defence Force as part of the activities of the International Council for Military Sport (CISM).
