Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) has fully applauded the world’s football governing body, Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) over the FIFA live your goals’ football project.

The project, the first of its kind on the African continent was launched on Thursday at the KCCA Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.

KCCA was represented at the function by the Deputy Executive Director, Ambrose Jimmy Atwoko, who came in for Jenifer Musisi, the City Executive Director.

As KCCA, we have fully given the project the blessings to move on with the programme meant to develop young football talents in schools. We have instructed all the schools under KCCA to enroll for the programme.

Over 200 young girls majority of whom were from Kampala schools and community team participated in the 2 hour event.

FIFA was represented by FIFA development officer, Florie and Instructors Emilia Casaletti and Jacquiline Shipanga. Several Ugandan instructors were trained and will remain working toothlessly to sustain the project.

Uganda at the moment does not have an active women’s league and the National team, Uganda Crested Cranes hasn’t played a competitive game in the last 18 months.

Only the national U-20 team, the She Kobs played in a Nations Cup qualifier before bowing out citing lack of finances.

Ambrose Atwoko revealed that KCCA has planned a Children’s football gala to streamline and tap the young talents.

KCCA shall hold its own U-12 and U-16 football tournament on the 6th and 12th December 2014 in Kampala

Uganda is currently ranked 177th on the FIFA women rankings.
