Ndejje University’s three gold medals in the stroke play wood ball event have elevated them above the rest in the 9th Eastern Africa University games at the Uganda Christian University (UCU) main campus in Mukono.

The Luwero based Institution won the games’ first medals scooping 3 gold medals from the wood ball doubles and mixed doubles categories.

Kampala International University on Thursday night were crowned champions of the Karate event beating Ndejje University to second place.

Moi University’s Lydia Chekumi who ran 5000m in 17:32:02 minutes picked the first medal for the university from Kenya.

Bugema University is the other with one gold as Joshua Cheptegei won the 10,000M race in 29:20:90 minutes.

Hockey kicked off at the Lugogo Stadium on Thursday and it has been a Kenyan affair thus far.

United States International University (USIU) whipped, KISII 4-0 in the opener.

Maseno University and USIU played to a goal-less before another all Kenyan affair involving Strathmore and Jomo Kenyatta Universities ended 0-0.

Eldoret University held Makerere University in another non scoring duel.

Basketball continued with Kyambogo University winning by 8 baskets in their 38-30 over Mountains of the Moon University.

University of Rwanda overcame Jomo Kenyatta 43-31 whilst hosts UCU were 39-36 victors over KIU.

In men’s football, Kampala International University (KIU) walloped Tanzania’s Masinde Muliro 6-0.

Vipers F.C player, Emma Waiswa with a brace, Bright Haguma, Fahad Muhammad, Bashir Babu and Ibra Munywangi with the others.

Former Asante Kototo footballer, Joseph Ocaya’s 2 goals helped Kyambogo overcome Zanzibar University.

MUST lost to Kenya’s Mzumbe 0-3, while Nkumba’s encounter with Nkozi ended scoreless.

In Women’s football, hosts UCU were held by Eldoret University 1-1 while Kyambogo were 3-0 winners over Methodist University from Kenya.

Rugby kicked off with victories for Makerere University, MUBS and UCU.

Makerere beat Kyambogo 24-7, overcame Kenyatta 42-0 before edging Uganda Martyrs, Nkozi 26-0.

MUBS humiliated Kyambogo 29-0 before UCU clobbered Uganda Martyrs University 56-5

The games continue on Friday with day three action.

43 universities are taking part of the games that end Sunday.
