Kenyan sides AFC Leopards and Tusker FC have turned down invitations to play in the 2015 Mapinduzi Cup due to be held in January in Zanzibar.
This was revealed by both sides in a communication with AFC Leopards stating on its official website.
The club will not take part in the annual Mapinduzi Cup to be held in Zanzibar in January. The team will however focus on preparing for the next season. The team resumes training on 18th of December 2014 ahead of the Western Region Tour that begins a few days later. The Western Region tour begins with matches in Bomet all the way to Busia and Kakamega.
For Tusker, they view the preparations for next season without a competitive tourney as more ideal.
We will resume training from Monday 5 January. We are not going for the Mapinduzi Cup this time around so no need to resume earlier. It is always tricky going for the tournament since most teams participating have league going on while we are on pre-season and our players struggle a lot to cope, that’s why we decided to skip it this time around.
The two teams are among the 11 sides invited for the tournament. Uganda’s KCC FC are the defending champions and will be representing Uganda.
