Defending champions, NIC managed to start off their title defense at most menacing best as they racked up two victories over the weekend in Zanzibar.

The Kiwanuka Vicent coached lads dismantled Zimamoto 62-27 on Saturday in their first game and continued with a superb show with 39-37 win against Zanzibari outfit Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) on Sunday.

In the absence of star shooter Peace Proscovia who is pursuing a professional career in England, Skipper, Desire Obua and Centre, Lukia Meeme rose to the occasion notably in the second game against JKU. The pair‘s fine passing opened up the rival’s defense to create room for Stella Oyella and Hadijiah Nakabuye to get goals.

Meanwhile, KCCA went down 35-37 to Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology in their first pool B match, but they have a chance to paper the cracks on Monday morning with a stern test against Tanzanian army side Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT).

However, JKT is not anew opponent against Ugandan clubs as it lost to NIC in last year’s East Africa Netball Championship finals that took place in Tanzania, Dar-es-salaam.

Another Ugandan flag bearer, Prisons will be up to task when they face off with JKT Ruvu on Monday in their first group game.

The event that has attracted eleven teams from the East African region started on 14th March and will end on 22nd March.
