Gears will notch when the second round of the National Rally Championship rolls on this April.

The hosting club, Eastern Motor Club (EMC) launched The Source of the Nile rally scheduled for 4-5th April in Jinja.

The rally will run under the theme ‘remembering the legendary EMC drivers’.

Busoga region produced some prominent drivers like Sospeter Munyegera and Mubarak Kisingo.

Munyegera was the first Ugandan driver to participate in the famous safari rally. And together with Kisingo as a navigator were the first blacks to win the national rally championship.

Talking to Kawowo sports, Kees Kagolo, the President EMC explained the intentions of the theme.

“We are recognising our legends to appreciate their efforts in developing motorsports in Busoga.

“And the fact that the current generation didn’t know them, this will help them know that there existed some great drivers from our region,” he said.

Two sections have been named after the legends, and they will go through there home areas.

The 66km section from Bayitabogwe via Mayuge to Iganga town has been named after Munyegera while a 49km stage from Nambale kaliro to Bulowooza is named after Kisingo.

“We named these two sections after them and at the end of the event awards will be given to winners of both sections,” he added.

The event will kick off with the super special stage at the Jinja Agricultural grounds before they traverse the districts of Iganga, Mayuge and Luuka.

Six sections will be covered on day two.

The rally will feature a power stage where fans will be treated to great action according to Kagolo.

“We put up a power stage for fans who may not make it to some sections.

“They should expect great action there because the stage really calls for some speeds,” he said.

Motocross riders are also expected to grace the event at the super special stage.
