Uganda Cranes will know their opponents in the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers on Monday April 5, 2015 the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.

The draw will be held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt with the competition set to be held in Kigali, Rwanda between January 16 and 7 February 2016.

42 teams will participate in the qualifiers according to zonal allocations of the national football associations affiliated to CAF with two rounds set to be played during the qualifiers save for Northern Zone that has Libya, Morocco and Tunisia who will face off in a round robin format with the top two progressing to the finals.

The Zones West B, Central, Central – East and Southern have been allocated three slots each while zone West A has just one.

The qualifiers will start from the weekend of June 19 – 21 through to August 28 – 30 where 15 teams will emerge to join hosts Rwanda.

Northern Zone; Libya, Morocco and Tunisia

West A Zone; Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone

West B Zone; Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria and Togo

Central Zone; Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Chad, DR Congo and Gabon

Central-East Zone; Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda (though Rwanda don’t need to qualify)

Southern Zone; Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Mauritius, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe 

The Mediterranean Knights of Libya are the defending champions of the tournament won in 2014 in South Africa.
