CAF U-23/ Olympic Qualifiers:

  • Return Leg Result: Somalia 1-1 Rwanda
  • Aggregate Score: Somalia 1-3 Rwanda (Rwanda Advance to face Uganda)

Uganda Kobs (U-23 football side) will play Rwanda in the first round of the CAF U-23/ Olympic qualifiers.

The confirmed development follows Rwanda’s 1 all draw against Somalia in a return leg clash that was played in Djibouti at the El Hadj Hassan Gouled Stadium.

The match was supposed to have been played in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital but Kenya refused to host the tie due to security concerns.

The first leg played two weeks ago was won by Rwanda 2-0.

On Sunday, Rwanda scored through Isaie Songa in the 4th minute, before Somalia winger Abbas Mohammed made amends on the hour mark.

The path to the Africa U-23 Finals:

The winner between Uganda and Rwanda will take on Egypt in the last round of qualification for the quadrennial CAF U-23 Championship, scheduled for December 5-19 in Senegal that will attract eight teams.

The first leg shall be played in Rwanda before the return in Kampala at a venue that will confirmed by FUFA.

The top three sides at this continental event will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Uganda started the preparations for the Rwanda ties on Sunday when a team of 44 was summoned and they started training at the KCCA Stadium in Lugogo (minus the KCC players who had an early morning training).
