With match fixing scandals almost becoming a norm in Uganda football, many ridiculous developments were expected to unfold on the final day of the 2014/2015 Uganda Premier League season.
On the last day of the 2013/2014 season, Simba needed three points to avoid the drop; their opponents were Kira Young who, according to sources, obliged. Kira Young conceded a late penalty which Simba gladly put it away.
As fate would have it, the two teams met again on the last day of the 2014/2015 season. The situation was a little different this time round, both teams badly needed results, Kira Young needed a win to avoid the relegation monster while all Simba needed was a draw.
Putting into consideration the Soana-Police tie in Kavumba which the later wanted to win to stay up, Simba didn’t take any chances.
The Army side led through Patrick Gohanasa six minutes to the break before Robert Nakyenalire added another at the hour mark.
Godfrey Sembyata pulled one back for Kira as boss Jimmy Lukwago sat on the stairs of Gate 6, his knees supporting his chin while both his hands supported the upper part of his head.
Ssembyata’s strike wasn’t enough as referee Robert Donny who has handled endless Kira Young ties this season blew the final whistle.
Kiira Young joins already relegated Entebbe FC and Rwenshama to the FUFA Big League.
