National golf captain Adolf Muhumza, warmed up for a hectic golf season ahead by claiming the Mbarara Open this week at the par 70 Mbarara course in Western Uganda.
The Toro based golfer shot an opening round of 69 and 78 with a gross total of 147 to claim the gross category and also become the first winner at the tournament that was being organised after a 9 year absence.
It comes in the wake of a season were the national players will be playing in the Uganda Open, All Africa Golf Championship, East African golf challenge, the Africa President’s Cup and the East Africa Community golf shield.
He was closely followed by National junior golfer Herman “Deco” Mutebi, who with a total gross score of 149 after two rounds of 76 and 71 while the Mayombo Memorial winner and also national golfer Ronald Bukenya finished with 151 gross after two rounds of 80 and 71.
Edwin Muhereza was the overall winner with 42 stableford points. The tournament was sponsored by the China Railway Seventh Group and Pepsi. Palm Valley’s Fred Wanzala won the professionals category with 152 gross.
