The 2015 National Hockey League got underway over the weekend at Lugogo Hockey Grounds.

Weatherhead got off a winning start. Rodney Nagaba, Andrew Bisoborwa and Ibra Tamale scored two goals each as Weatherhead beat Rockets 9-3. Moses Tushabe, Ellis Katwebaze and Vicent Kalule scored the other goals for Weatherhead. Rockets’ goals came from Daniel Kyaligonza, Jerome Owor and Micheal Nashimolo.

In the other men’s game, Wanainchi edged Kampala 1-0 on penalties on Sunday a stroke scored by Kevin Chimwani.

In the women’s division, Wanainchi took on Weatherhead A on Saturday and won 3-2. Mildred  Aima, Winnie Alora and Doreen Nakigga scored for Wanainchi while Slyvia Oryaro and Josefien de Rider scored for Weatherhead

Waetherhead B beat Kampala 7-2. Siddy Alumu and Gladys Muber scored twice apiece  for Weatherhead and Sarah Alok, Viola Atim and Rose Atim each scored a goal in the rout. For Kampala, it was Susan Khaiza and  Savah Abwoitum on target.

This year’s league has participation from nine teams – five men’s and four ladies’.

The men’s teams include; Wanaichi H.C, Kampala H.C, Simba H.C, Rockets H.C and Weatherhead H.C while the women’s teams are Wanaichi H.C, Weatherhead B, Kampala Ladies H.C and Weatherhead A.

The league will have four rounds and played on a home and away basis.
