Gambia national head coach, Savoy Raoul is expected to line up at least 3 of the country’s professional players against the Uganda Cranes during Tuesday’s international friendly with Uganda Cranes in Kampala.

The Gambian Football Federation preferred a training camp in the East African based country ahead of their AFCON 2017 qualifier against South Africa.

Left back, Abdou Jammeh, who turns out for Finnish side, Rovaniemen Palloseura (Rops), Ebrima Sohna, another Finish based player with Kuopion Palloseura and F.C Sion’s Modou Jagne in Sweden are some of the confirmed stars who will be making the Kampala trip.

Other Expected Professionals:

It however remains a mystery whether Middlesbrough winger, Mustapha Carayol who had earlier indicated that he would love to play for his mother nation, will be part of the traveling squad.

Carayol, who was born in Banjul, is targeting an appearance for The Scorpions in the forthcoming qualifiers for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Another player in the same bracket is Swansea forward Modou Barrow, 22, is another forward that could make the Kampala trip.

Barrow lived in Sweden since he was 11 years but remains committed to playing for his country of birth – Gambia.

The Scorpions, as the national team is fondly known are expected in Kampala on Sunday (Sunday, 7th June 2015) ahead of their training camp in Uganda and the international friendly match with Uganda Cranes on Tuesday, 9th June 2015.

Several Gambia players left Banjul International Airport via Dakar for Entebbe.

The Gambia have been drawn in Group M of the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers, along with South Africa, Cameroon and Mauritania.

Hosts, Uganda will play in group D of the qualifiers alongside, Burkina Faso, Comoros and Botswana.

The international build up game on 9th June 2015 will be handled by Ugandan officials.

Gambia is currently ranked 160th out of the 209 FIFA member nations, a distant 89 places off Uganda’s May FIFA ranking of 71.
