After a long while of keeping passionate Ugandan football fans speculating, the national senior head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has named a 26 man squad to face the Gambia Scorpions and Botswana Zebras in the upcoming international build up and Afcon 2017 group D qualifier.
Micho had kept the squad as secretive as affairs in a grave.
On Sunday, he named a team of 26 players that will play in the international build up against Gambia and Botswana three days later at Namboole.
Missing Players:
Majority of players who have been core of the team in the previous campaigns are notably missing from ths team.
Tonny Mawejje, team captain Andrew Mwesigwa, Moses Oloya, Geofrey Baba Kizito, Daniel Sserunkuma, Emma Okwi are all missing for diferent reasons.
Team Squad:
Vipers sports club youthful goal keeper, James Alitho joins the new faces on the senior national team.
Brian Ochwo, Denis Okot, Shafiki Bakaki and John Semazzi are the other fresh candidates vying for the respective slots on the team.
Kira Young defensive midfielder, Derrick Tekkwo, who had an impressive debut during March’s international build up in Ibom state makes the squad.
Professionals:
The Ethiopian based trio of goal keeper, Robert Odongkara, Isaac Isinde and Brian Umony are some of the foreign based players.
Others professional players on the team are; goal keeper, Denis Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns), Geofrey Massa (Bloemfontein Celtics), Alex Kakuba (Estoril), Wiliam Luwagga Kizito (Sporting Colviha), Boban Zirintusa (Polokwane) Godfrey Walusimbi, Aucho Khaldi (Gor Mahia) and the two Lebanon based defenders, Richard Kasagga and Denis Iguma.
Uganda is set to play Gambia on Tuesday (international build up game) before facing Botswana on Saturday (AFCON 2017 group D qualifier) on Saturday, 13th June 2015.
Both games will be played at the Nelson Mandela stadium, Namboole.
The team has entered residential training at Sky Hotel.
