HAKIM MAGUMBA TESTIMONIAL:

Curtain-Raiser: USPA XI 1 (3) – 1 (4) SC Villa Fans

Main Match: Magumba Friends 0-4 SC Villa

Other Match: Magumba Friends 2-3 Ex-Internationals

Four personalities, Martin Kizza, Hakimu Magumba and two outside entities – Eddy Kenzo and Mathias Walukagga (both musicians) outshone the rest at the Magumba Testimonial match at Nakivubo stadium on Saturday.

Whereas the big man himself – Magumba came off the bench to score three goals for two different sides (two for Magumba friends and the other for the Ex-Internationals side), the day surely belonged to an active player – Martin Kizza.

The left footed midfielder bagged a hat-trick in the main match and the two musicians whose introduction later in the second half caused an instant impact.

Walukagga at one point dribbled past three SC Villa players and Kenzo used the plat form to showcase his no-look passes and fancy footwork – much to the applause of the lively crowd.

The Magumba friend’s side lost 4-0 on the day to the current SC Villa side with Robert Achema scoring the other.

In the second match of the day, the Ex-Internationals beat Magumba Friends 3-2.

The man of the moment, Magumba, still fresh with his dribbles and wall passes scored a brace for the Ex-internationals with the other coming from Mathias Kawesa.

The second half of that very match witnessed Magumba switch sides, and he scored against his own team to complete a ‘rare hat-trick’.

Steven Bengo, one of the players on Magumba friends team squared for FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson to score in an empty net to narrow the margin as the game ended 3-2.

The earlier curtain raiser between the media team (Uganda Sports Press Association) and SC Villa ended in a one all draw but the latter won 4-3 on penalties.

Fans showered Magumba with gifts and money thereafter the match as he was carried aloft.

He latter shed tears of joy as he broke down on two times when he was narrating his football journey.

As he shed tears, Magumba stammered in a mixture of Luganda and Lusoga;

I thank SC Villa and the fans. I thank Edgar Watson for welcoming me at SC Villa as i was a young child from Iganga. I have played in five different generations at SC Villa and it is a big lesson to current players on how they should behave. I will remain an SC Villa life supporter for life and i am soon booking my seat in the Kirassia wing. I was signed at 500,000/- and played with passion throughout. Towards the end, i have spent a season at SC Villa without a salary nor transport at times but i remained committed to the club. Whether there are many haters who have frustrated me, i will remain loyal to SC Villa till death

The FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson, a great friend to Magumba pledged to support Magumba enroll for a coaching course.

An unspecified amount of money was realized from the match, the first of its kind in Uganda’s football circles.
