AFCON Group D Match: Comoros Vs Uganda

  • Sat, 5th September 2015 – 3 p.m (Mitsamiouli Stadium)

King pin defender, Murushid Jjuuko is set to earn his maiden full senior national team cap in the Uganda Cranes away tie against Comoros on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach, Milutin Sredojevic has released the starting eleven with no surprise as he has named the same side he has been assembling during training at the FUFA Technical center, Njeru.

The Simba Sports Club defender in the Tanzanian Premier League is a graduate of the Uganda U-23 side having played for the under age team in the country’s 3-0 against Thailand in 2013 under then head coach, George Ssemwogerere.

Jjuuko, a former Entebbe F.C, Vipers and Sports Club Victoria University defender makes the team ahead of another Jjuuko entity, Richard Kasagga who will keep on the sidelines alongside a largely inexperienced bench.

Newly signed Orlando Pirates midfielder, Yassar Mugerwa, Robert Odongkara (Goal Keeper), Ivan Ntege, Joseph Ochaya, Muzamir Mutyaba, Richard Kasagga and Yunus Sentamu.

In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports a day before the team departed, Jjuuko, an unused substitute when Uganda lost to Togo 1-0 in Lome last November had openly expressed the desire to put up a solid performance;

I am ready to prove my potential once granted the responsibility

Vastly experienced midfielder, Tonny Mawejje returns straight to the starting line up after close to seven months in the wilderness.

Mawejje has recently signed for Iceland’s Premier League side, Thróttur Reykjavík F.C, where he has also played in six competitive league matches.

Mamelodi Sun Downs gangly shot stopper, Dennis Onyango starts in goal with Iguma and Walusimbi on the right and left flanks respectively.

St George’s intelligent center half Isaac Isinde partners the inexperienced Jjuuko at the rather sensitive central defensive department.

There are two anchormen employed in Gor Mahia’s left footed Aucho Khalid alongside Mawejje.

Portuguse based dancing winger, William Luwagga Kizito takes the wide flank role as Vipers’ play maker, Farouk Miya, the only locally based player in the starting line up, is handled the creative attack duties.

Two natural strikers in team skipper Geofrey Massa of South African PSL side, Blomfoetin Celtics and St George’s dread locked forward, Brian Umony start in the desperate quest for the crucial positive result away from home.

The match will be handled by Seychelles FIFA approved referees.
