Uganda rugby league champions, Hima Cement Heathens unveiled a new kit on Tuesday evening at their home ground at Kyadondo Rugby Club ahead of their first tie in the Uganda Cup this weekend with their feeder club Stallions.
A battery of journalist’s their supporters, the sponsors, club officials and players were at the glamorous unveiling at the their home ground.
The Kit is part of a Sh 300 million sponsorship package released to the Heathens, which also caters for the team’s training expenses and facilitation. Hima Cement this year announced Sh 300 million three-year sponsorship deal for the Heathens.
Heathens coach Brian Tabaruka said the team has been on intense training and is prepared to take home the Uganda Cup trophy for the 10th time.
“The players have been putting in a lot of work in physical fitness and can see great improvements on the game skills. We are looking forward to make our sponsors very proud,” Tabaruka said, adding no major changes have been made to the team.
“We have incorporated a few young stars from our junior team. They may have some appearances during the matches. This will be mainly on a learning basis, so that they can have a feel of what it is like to be part of the Heathens Family,” Tabaruka added.
The Heathens is the current Nile Special Premier Rugby League champions which they secured earlier this year in a tightly contested match with rivals Kobs.
