2015/16 Uganda Premier League:

  • JMC Hippos 1-0 BUL F.C

Jinja Municipal Council Hippos football club had easy prey of nemesis, BUL F.C winning the Jinja derby 1-0 at a relatively packed Kakindu stadium before the live cameras of Azam Television.

The only goal of the day came off a well-timed headed 13th minute effort from midfielder, Patrick Onyango following Isa Magumba’s perfectly curled ball from the right.

JMC Hippos were the assumed hosts as the two sides that share the same playground faced off for the first time in the league.

From start, it was eminent the composure for many of the Hippos players, despite missing the services of head coach, James Odoch on the sidelines would yield instant dividends.

JMC broke the ice with the first attack that resulted into a corner by the 5th minute.

60 seconds later, it was now BUL F.C with their own attack, winning a corner.

The turning point of the game arrived in the 12th minute when BUL F.C left back, Hakim Magombe fouled the industrious Walter Bankene about 50 yards away from goal.

Isa Magumba curled in a wonderful cross that eluded a forest of bodies only to be met at the back post by an on-rushing Onyango and it beat goalie Emmanuel Kalyowa for the goal.

BUL F.C then recomposed and won three consecutive corners in a quest to level matters as soon as possible.

In the 25th minute, Nsumba chested a ball in Mike Ndera’s path but the latter shot high of Wegima’s goal posts from 20 yards.

JMC stocky midfielder, Herbert Kakande had an attempt at goal two minutes later before Sempira brought down Bankene but Bageya’s delivery into the area was cleared out of danger.

JMC had a chance to double their lead through their lead forward, Mustapha Mugoya but the pacy striker hesitated to shoot after a break through before BUL central defender, Mike Kawooya hurriedly cleared the ball for a corner.

Magumba was cautioned for dangerous play on the half hour mark before Sempiira received his booking 6 minutes later.

Alex Isabirye’s side had the last attempt of the half on goal when skipper Nsumba had a cross mis-kicked for yet another fruit-less corner.

Unto resumption, BUL had the first change of the game, introducing Braize Nkolo for the ineffective James Kasibante.

Perhaps the game remained in the control of JMC until the 54th minute when Milton Karisa came on for a seemingly tired Nsumba as Wakalaita took over the team captaincy.

On the hour mark, Karisa shot wide of goal from an acrobatic attempt.

Meanwhile, JMC called for their maiden change, introducing a diligent Abdul Rahiman Ajab for another hard worker, Bankene.

On 65 minutes, Mugoya teased goalie Kalyowa from distance with a 25 yard left footer, but the BUL F.C shot the lower post through Wakalaita.

Ajab had a chance to bury off the fixture, but the forward shot wide of goal barely 5 metres away from goal.

BUL thereafter called for their change of the game when David Kizza replaced Ndera on the 70th minute mark.

Meanwhile, Herbert Kakande limped out with 14 minutes left on the clock and Jimmy Jalendo took over his place.

From then on, until the final whistle, the tide of the match never changed as JMC resorted to time wasting tactics as the game death neared.

Goalie Wegima was booked for easily falling to the ground in a bid to waste time deep in added minutes of the 90 minutes.

It was not long until the referee called for the end of the game to subject BUL to their 4th loss of the current campaign.

The defeat was also BUL F.C’s first to any newly promoted team since joining the top flight status in 2011.
