• Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 Orlando Pirates

Days after edging Kaizer Chiefs in the 2015 Telkcom finals, Mamelodi Sundowns overcame rivals Orlando Pirates 2-0 at the Loftus Verfeld Stadium on Sunday evening in the league.

Ugandan fans based in South Africa turned up for the match to catch their two stars in action.

Whereas the Cranes number one goalkeeper, Dennis ‘Vala’ Onyango was once again between the goal posts in the Masandawana’s clean league sheet, the other Ugandan, Yassar Mugerwa did not make the 18 man squad for Orlando Pirates.

Mamelodi Sundowns proved the hungrier side when Khama Billiat tested Mpontshane as early as the second minute of the game

Leo Castro scored off Billiat’s assist, a minute after the quarter hour mark to give coach Pitso Mosimane’s side the command going to the break.

There were a couple of cautions in quick succession by the center referee, Thando Ndzandzeka.

Pirates’ Matlaba was booked for a foul on Thembe Zwane in the 39th minute before Tebogo went into the referee’s books for the wrong reasons.

Sundown’s Wayne Arendse was booked at the stroke of half time for alleged time wasting.

After recess, Castro then turned provider for the man of the match, Billiat in the 63rd to double the goal advantage.

Sundowns now lead the table standings going into the festive season break.

The Yellow Brigade has now gone eight league matches unbeaten.
