URA’s title hopes suffered a blow on Tuesday when they played to a goalless draw with bottom side Maroon FC at Luzira play ground.
Both sides showed signs of brilliance in the first stages of the game but it was Villa Oromchan who sent in the first shot of the game that was confidently saved by Maroons’ goalkeeper Jamil Maliyamungu.
Maroons thereafter were gifted a chance by defender Samuel Senkomi who couldn’t control the ball that met midfielder Patrick Kaddu who sent in a fantastic shot but the visitors were lucky as keeper Brian Bwete punched the ball for the corner.
Both teams enjoyed equal possession of the ball but as the minute board read 75th, Maroons had the goal post to thank when Frank Kalanda’s looping ball hit the left post moments before he was substituted.
Maroons responded through a counter attack master minded by Patrick Kaddu, Hudu Muliki and Salim Kiyagga – a move that should have given them an lead but midfielder Maxwell Okello who was at the end of Kiyagga’s cross headed over the bar.
Kefa Kisala’s boys had a chance for a goal in added minutes when Elkanna Nkuggwa received the ball from Saidi Kyeyune and his shot got saved.
The visitors no doubt missed the services of their in-form striker Robert Sentongo who was dropped because of indiscipline.
Kalanda the man tasked to find the back of the net against Maroons looked a bit rusty.
The draw hardly impacts the table as Maroons still remain stuck at the bottom of the table with 7 points.
However, URA with an added point move a place above to 8th with 18 points.
