The year begins on a good note for Ugandan football with the nation attaining its highest ever FIFA ranking in history.

In a latest release on January 7, 2016 Uganda is now ranked 62nd in the world after moving up one slot.

At 63rd last month, the nation had equaled its best ever ranking they last attained in September and October 2010.

With 553 points, Uganda is now ranked 12th on the continent ahead of giants Nigeria, Zambia, Mali and South Africa among others.

With less than ten days for the tournament to kick off, Uganda ranks better than group D opponents Mali in 63rd, Zambia 67th and Zimbabwe in 108th.

Still, Uganda is the highest ranked amongst her 2017 AFCON qualifiers group opponents with

Burkina Faso, Botswana and Comoros ranked in 89th, 95th, and 174th respectively.

CECAFA region

Kenya, are 101st, Rwanda lies 91st, Burundi 110th, Ethiopia is 118th, Tanzania 126th, Sudan 130th and South Sudan 139th

There are no movements in the top 22 nations with Beligium still on the World’s best footballing country while African Champions Cote d’Ivoire is only nation on the continent in top 20 ranked at 19.
