CHAN 2016 Group D:
Saturday, 23rd January 2016: Both Matches at Rubavu stadium
- 1st Match: Zimbabwe Vs Mali – 4 p.m (Uganda Time)
- 2nd Match: Uganda Vs Zambia – 7 p.m (Ugandan Time)
Uganda takes on Zambia in the two nation’s respective second CHAN group D engagements at Rubavu stadium on Saturday, 23rd January 2016.
Whereas Zambia has won one game (against Zimbabwe), Uganda has a single point following the 2 all thriller with West Africans, Mali on Tuesday evening.
The game between Uganda Cranes and the Zambian Chipolopolo will have several key battles to determine the final result:
Buchizya Mfune Vs Robert Sentongo:
Pint sized striker Robert Sentongo is a gifted forward, full of running and shooting on every turn.
Mfune on the other hand is that man marker who always gives his opponents no breathing spaces.
Richard Kasagga Jjuuko Vs Christopher Katongo:
Katongo is a footballing Sergeant full of life and passion.
He is officially 34 years old but will run the entire 90 minutes without rest.
The veteran Green Buffaloes’ forward will test the backline of Kasagga, Ochaya, Okot and Muwanga with his awesome heading, dribbling and off the ball runs.
His partner Salulani Phiri is another potent secret weapon that can punish the opposition at any time should full attention be given Katongo.
How the Ugandan backline handles the 2012 AFCON winner will decide the tide of the game.
Dennis Oola Okot Vs Clatous Chota Chama:
Left footed wingers a special gifted crop in world football.
The Zesco United dribbling ace will definitely put the ever improving Denis Okot to a great test.
Luckily, Okot has faced such intelligent wingers and excelled.
Chama’s only blemish is the inability to twist and turn on the right leg as the left.
Whoever comes top of this battle is most likely to decide the eventual match outcome.
Jackson Chirwa Vs Kezironi Kizito:
Chirwa is that orthodox deep lying lank midfielder.
Blessed with the patience to keep in the ‘hole’, Chirwa plays it simple.
Against Zimbabwe in the opener, he combined well with another veteran, Isaac Chansa to kill off midfield dominance of the Warrior’s Gerald Takwara and Farai Edwin Madhanaga.
His height has played to full advantage to help Zambia win the aerial threat and the timely interceptions of the ball.
Against Kezironi’s dribbling and passing instincts, Chirwa will be kept on tenter-hooks.
Mwelwa Mwape Vs Timothy Dennis Awany:
Mwape is another Zesco player on the Zambian squad.
He is fond of dribbling, has a decent first touch on the ball and can shoot from distances.
The battle between Mwape and KCCA F.C midfielder cum defender, Awany will be another exciting duel whose final winner will definitely impact on the game.
Erisa Ssekisambu Vs Stephen Kabamba:
Left back Stephen Kabamba and pacy right winger, Erisa Ssekisambu will directly face each other in a personal epic clash.
The latter’s position sense will be put under close scrutiny by the Vipers’ wide man who also out jumped the Malian defenders for Uganda’s opener in the second group D match.
It remains to be seen whether Kabamba will get the energies, space and time to conduct his overlapping exploits.
