Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 Supersport United

Mamelodi Sundowns registered a comfortable 2-0 win over SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night

The Sundowns were eyeing maximum points when they hosted their Tshwane rivals Supersport United in Atteridgeville but it was Supersport who got the first scoring opportunity when forward Dove Wome beat the Sundowns defence just three minutes into the game and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Denis Onyango, only for ball to go wide of the target.

Eleven minutes later, in-form Sundowns’ forward Khama Billiat had his effort from a direct free-kick from outside the area tipped over the bar by Supersport’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams who also parried away Keagan Dolly shot moments later.

The Brazilians were enjoying the majority of the possession but couldn’t find the break through until the fortieth minute when unmarked Hlompho Kekana headed a coner-kick to make it 1-0 three minutes to the half-time break.

Before the halftimetime break, goalkeeper Onyango was forced into a good save by Mark Mayambela following Matsatsantsa counter-attack.

Just two minutes after the break, Colombian striker Leonardo Castro doubled Sundowns’ lead after combining with Billiat following a mistake by SuperSport captain Dean Furman and all was nothing but done.

With Sundowns emerging 2-0 winners on the night, they returned to the top of the Absa Premiership standings.
