Ugandan Fred Musobo impressed in the sixth of this winter’s IAAF Cross Country Permit series, in the northern Italian town of San Vittore Olona, making fourth at the famous Cinque Mulini meeting on Sunday.
The athlete put in all efforts under the sunny conditions and eventually crossed the finish line after winner Jairus Birech, and runners up, Bahrain’s Aweke Ayalew, and Geoffrey Korir respectively.
The main battle ensued between duo Ayalew and Birech who drew a large distance between themselves and the rest, going through the first lap mark in 8:08.
The second lap had them at 16:28 before the final lap with 300 metres to go where Birech launched in fashion to hold off Ayalew, winning the 11.5km race by two seconds in 34:38.
Uganda’s 2015 world mountain running champion, Musobo finished fourth in 35:44, 20 seconds after Kenya’s IAAF World Cross Country Championships Guiyang 2015 junior medallist silver medallist Geoffrey Korir.
