The game played between Lira United and Premier League side Maroons FC in the Uganda cup at Lango sports ground on 6th February ended in a 2 all draw in normal time.

Defender, Sylvester Okello who also captains the prisons side scored the first goal of the game in the 32nd minute before Joachim’s header from a brilliant cross leveled matters for the home side with just 5 minutes to the end of the first half.

The visitors reinstated their lead through substitute Sydney Chika’s fantastic volley in the 72nd minute but they conceded an equalizer through Allan Anguyo’s own goal while trying to clear a cross in the 87th minute.

The game ended 2-2 in 90 minutes and headed into the penalty shoot-out. Captain Okello as expected took the responsibilities to the lead the team as he scored first spot kick before Jamil Maliyamungu the hero of the day saving Lira’s first two.

Goalkeeper, Maliyamungu was at it again, setting his team free when he netted the last spot kick of the game to ensure Maroons return back home with a 4-1 victory in the shootout.

The other scorers were right back Denis Rukundo and midfielder Akuyo. Maroons are through to the round of 32 of the Uganda cup.

The winner in this cup gets to represent the country in next year’s CAF Confederations Cup.

SC Villa are the current champions.
