Mbarara Sports Academy F.C 0-4 KCCA F.C
Prior to the start of the Uganda Cup Round of 64 match at Kakyeeka stadium in Mbarara, none thought of a goal fiesta.
With the nearby Ruizi River cruising across the town, home side, Mbarara Soccer Academy were lucky not to have drowned in the water body, but under the effects of goals.
The visitors booked a place in the round of 32 following a resounding 4-0 victory on bumpy surface.
Herman Wasswa on his return to the Lugogo based club put the ‘Kasasiro boys’ ahead in the 26th minute with an easy tapped effort off captain, Denis Okot’s delivery from the right.
Wasswa had as early as the second minute tested goalie Hakim Kakembo but watched in shock when his well-timed left footed tap off Joseph Ochaya’s cross on the left hit the woodwork.
Midfielder, Muzamir Mutyaba whose combination with Godfrey Sembatya was fruitful had an attempt in the 8th minute blocked.
The hosts had two glaring opportunities to take the lead but lead forward Ashim Ahim did not carry his scoring boots as he failed to beat Ochaya with the goal at his mercy.
Ochaya had a free-kick from 20 yards narrowly missing target before Wasswa’s attempt inside the box was foiled by Kakembo.
Twaha Moses was cautioned for a malicious foul on Mutyaba, who did not return for the second half.
At the start of the second half, the KCCA technical bench introduced forward Paul Mucureezi for Mutyaba and two minutes into the second half, Wasswa grabbed his second on cloudy evening with a professional tap-in off a telling Ochaya delivery from the left.
Tennager, Derrick Nsibambi netted the third goal after goalkeeper Kakembo spilled Wasswa’s shot in the young forward’s path a minute after the hour mark.
Four minutes later, the lively and passionate crowd cheered yet to another goal. Ochaya’s venomous effort found the back of the net much to the applause of the crowd.
KCCA F.C’s youth players, Edward Kikonyogo and Julius Poloto were then thrown on for their memorable debuts in the famous club shirts. Kikoyongo replaced Nunda and Poloto came in for the tired legs of Nsibambi.
Within the last ten minutes of the game, a seemingly goal hungry KCCA side continued to dominate the game and Ochaya’s effort kissed the woodwork in one of the final attempts at goal.
KCCA progresses to the round of 32 stage to book a berth against Sadolin Paints F.C at Kakindu stadium on Valentine’s day.
