Al Khartoum (Sudan) 0-1 SC Villa (Uganda)

The last time SC Villa played away on the continent, they conceded six goals. Then in 2005, they lost 6-0 to Egypt’s Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League following a goalless draw at Nakivubo stadium.

On their return after eleven years, they earn a precious away victory edging Sudan’s Al Khartoum 1-0 at the Khartoum stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Midfielder Taddeo Lwanga scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute to give the Jogoos a first leg advantage despite travelling with just sixteen players.

With the return leg two weeks away, SC Villa need to avoid a home defeat to progress to the next round.

It’s a fantastic weekend for both Ugandan representatives after Vipers also won their CAF Champions League tie against Enyimba FC at Nakivubo on Friday.

The last time SC Villa won away in the continental competition, they beat Angola’s AS Viacao 2-1 in Luanda but lost 2-0 in Kampala in the return leg.
