It was a special day for two African ambassadors, Pione Sisto Ifolo Emirmija (born in Uganda) and Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu when Danish side Midtjylland beat Manchester United 2-1 in the first leg of the Round of 32 of the Europa League on Thursday.

Memphis Depay gave United the lead in the 37th minute before Pione Sisto restored parity when he struck in the 44th minute.

The Ugandan-born midfielder cut inside from the left and curled his effort towards goal for the equalizer.

With 13 minutes remaining, Onuachu, who came on for Martin Pusic, scored the winning goal to give Midtjylland the victory.

Also in action for Midtjylland was Rilwan Hassan, who went off for Marcos Urena on 67 minutes.

United will host Midtjylland at Old Trafford for the reverse fixture next week.

Sisto was born in Uganda, to South Sudanese parents.

His family moved to Denmark when he was still a baby aged two months.

He recently earned a call up to Danish U-21 team and played 45 minutes for the senior team in Denmark’s goalless draw against Albania in the Euro 2016 qualifier.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
