CAF Champions League (Preliminary Round – 2nd Leg)
Enyimba (Nigeria) 2-0 Vipers SC (Uganda)
(Enyimba F.C qualifies 2-1 on aggregate over two legs)
Uganda’s representative in the CAF Champions League, Vipers Sports Club will have to wait for another 365 days to make an impact on the continent.
This is after suffering a 2-0 loss to the Nigerian champions, Enyimba F.C on Sunday evening in Nigeria during the return leg of the CAF Champions league preliminary round.
Mfon Udoh was the hero of the day with a brace at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in the humid coastal city of Port Harcourt.
First, was a well converted penalty in the 32nd minute as the Elephants took a first half lead before doubling the effort a minute after the hour mark.
Udoh’s first, a penalty that arose when team skipper Nicholas Wadada was judged by the Senegalese referee, Dauoda Gueye to have fouled Ikechukwu Ibenegbu in the forbidden area.
The gangly forward made no mistake from the resultant kick past goalkeeper James Alitho.
The second, a delicious back heel after a goalmouth scramble in the crowded visitors’ penalty box.
The day’s result cancels the 1-0 advantage the reigning Uganda Champions carried prior to the return leg when they won at Nakivubo stadium in Kampala – thanks to Erisa Ssekisambu’s well booted goal a fortnight ago.
The two time African champions qualify with a slim 2-1 aggregate victory and thus book their berth to the next round when they visit East Africa once again, for a duel against Burundi’s Vital’o football club in 10 day’s time.
Vital’o eliminated Lioli F.C of Lesotho.
