Uganda Cup Round of 16:

Tuesday, March 8

Maroons vs. Bright Stars – Luzira Prisons Grounds, 4:00pm

With their hopes of surviving an axe in the Uganda Premier League fast fading, Maroons welcome Bright Stars to Luzira on Tuesday, March 8 for a date in the Uganda Cup well knowing that advancing to the next stage may well signify a fair season.

The two sides have already met twice this season and, unlike their first meeting in the league that ended in a barren draw last December, the Kawempe side won the reverse fixture at the Champions Stadium a fortnight ago.

Maroons welcome forward Hudu Mulikyi back to the team after being left out in last game against Lweza as a precautionary measure.

“He was coming back from a minor injury” said Maroons head coach Paddy Kintu. “I didn’t want to risk him so I rested him but he’s available for selection tomorrow” he added.

Maroons enroute to the Round of 16 advanced on penalties. The prisoners drew 2-2 with Lira United at the Round of 64, but eventually won the tie 4-1 on spot kicks before seeing off Amuria Crane City 4-1 still on penalties at the Round of 32.

Unlike their host, Bright stars won their round of 32 emphatically when they mercilessly beat Bushenyi side Kyambura Rastors 6-1. SC Villa are the defending champions. As usual, the club that emerges champion gets to represent Uganda in the CAF confederation cup.
