SC Villa 0-1 KCCA

Nigerian import Sulaimon Akinyemi came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as KCCA edged rivals SC Villa in a tense game played at Nakivubo stadium.

On a day second placed Vipers fired blanks against JMC Hippos, KCCA started slowly and should have been punished inside the first minute but Karim Ndugwa failed to capitalize on Martin Mpuuga’s early mistake.

The defender failed to control Habib Kavuma pass which fell to Ndugwa but he feebly shot at Benjamin Ochan in goal.

The visitors grew into the game moments later and should have scored in the 15th minute but Paul Mucureezi missed a good opportunity.

The former UCU student chested down Denis Okot’s cross inside the area but his shot towards goal was easily collected by Nicholas Sebwato in SC Villa’s goal.

Seven minutes later, Derrick Nsibambi headed wide after a decent cross from Habib Kavuma down the left.

In the 24th minute, Godfrey Lwesibawa found space past left back Kavuma and decently crossed a low ball into the area but there was no Blue shirt to make connection with the KCCA backline beaten.

Nsibambi should have punished this two minutes later but saw his attempt fly over the bar from close range after a good ball from strike partner Ceaser Okhuti.

On the half hour mark, Ambrose Kirya saw his shot from the edge of the area saved by Ochan after good inter-play with Ndugwa and Sserumaga.

Sserumaga and Jackson Nunda also had chances before the break but the game remained goalless.

The second half saw SC Villa come out the better side pushing for goal but missed glaring chances through Kirya, Sserumaga and Martin Kizza who had replaced the latter.

The game looked destined for a stalemate until seven minutes to time when Akinyemi who had replaced Ceaser Okhuti combined well with another substitute Hakim Ssenkumba to tear the well organised SC Villa backline and he slotted home to send the Yellow army into frenzy.

Victory, the first in four matches for KCCA sees them re-open a five point gap at the summit with 55 points thanks to a barren stalemate at Kakindu.

SC Villa stay 10th on the log with 36 points and have five games in hand over the Kasasiro.
