South Sudan Football Federation has picked keen interest in the services of the towering Onduparaka defender, Rashid ‘Mertasacker’ Toha Freedom, Kawowo Sports has learnt.
Onduparaka head coach, Allan Kabonge Kivewala has confirmed the reports linking their player to Uganda’s neighbours in the North.
Yes, they (South Sudan) have approached us for the player (Toha) but it is down to the player, his parents and the interest of FUFA. If FUFA will need the player in future, it is necessary they prepare him early enough.
Christened Mertasacker for his enviable height and composure on the ball just like the Germany and Arsenal defender, Per Mertasacker, Toha is just 17 years old.
The S.2 student at Mandela S.S in Arua hails from Adjumani district.
“I want to play for Uganda Cranes. That is my prime target. But, if these people (South Sudan) come with a good offer and i am sidelined in the Uganda national team set up, i will make a decision” he stated.
Toha was part of the central defence in the West Nile regional team that defeated Uganda Cranes side in the national regional tours at the Gree light stadium in Arua.
He has played an integral role in the water porous Onduparaka defence in their bid towards attaining promotion to the Azam Uganda Premier league.
South Sudan has already nationalized The Saints defender Benard Agele.
Agele featured in the AFCON 2017 and World Cup 2018 qualification matches for South Sudan.
