Like he had expected, after leading Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Mamelodi Sundowns to league glory, Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango has landed a goalkeeper of the season nomination in  2015/2016 PSL Awards.

Onyango kept over 14 clean sheets in a season that saw Sundowns land the league title, accumulating a record 71 points. He has been nominated alongside Moeneeb Josephs (Bidvest Wits) and Shu-aib Walters (MP Black Aces).

The nomination has not come as a surprise for Onyango who last month said;

I have been wonderful in goal for my club, and I expect a PSL nomination this season. As a club we have had a great season, but as an individual, I have been excellent from the onset and the numbers are there for everyone to see. The awards organizers might not see me as a good goalkeeper but my first nomination at the awards is what am confident of achieving

He is also nominated in the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament category alongside teammates Bongani Zungu and Thabo Nthethe. Onyango inspired Sundowns to a 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a game he saved two penalties

We spent a lot of time studying the styles of Chiefs’ various penalty takers. Before each kick my team-mates reminded me where they expected Siphiwe Tshabalala and Camaldine Abraw to place their penalty. They called both kicks correctly.

The awards will be held at on Monday night, 30 May 2016 at the Emperors Palace, below is the list of nominees and categories in no particular order.
