Orlando Pirates holding cum creative midfielder, Yassar Mugerwa will be the first Uganda Cranes player to set foot in Zimbabwe ahead of the international friendly game against Zimbabwe Warriors on Tuesday afternoon.
Mugerwa will reach Harare International Airport on Monday morning straight from Johannesburg in South Africa.
Speaking to Kawowo Sports on phone, Mugerwa, who was unused substitute in the Bucs’ 3-2 Nedbank cup loss to SuperSport sounded ready to serve his country;
To serve the national team is everyone’s biggest expectation of life.
I will play to the best of my ability.
He is expected to be received at the Airport by the FUFA Advance team head, Decolas Kiiza.
The Cranes depart Entebbe International in the wee hours of Monday morning aboard Ethiopian Airlines with a stop over in Addis Ababa.
While at the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, they will be joined by two others Robert Odongkara and Isaac Isinde, both playing with giants, St George.
Tonny Mawejje, who turns out for Thottur in the Icelandic premiership and Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalie Dennis Onyango will arrive at Harare International Airport on Tuesday morning.
Thottur has a home league engagement against IBV on Sunday evening whilst Onyango will first attend the South African end of year awards on Monday night (he is highly tipped for the goalie of the year accolade).
Kiiza arrived in Harare from Kampala on Saturday evening to make early arrangements for the team.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe also has several players who will arrive on the actual match day
Onyango’ teammate at Sundown, Khama Billiat, Helsingborg striker Matthew Rusike arrive on Tuesday too.
Uganda needs to win the remaining two Group D AFCON 2017 qualifiers matches against Botswana (away) and Comoros at Nelson Mandela National Stadium for realistic chance of making the grade at the biggest football fiesta on the African soil.
At the moment, both Burkina Faso and Uganda have each garnered 7 points (the West Africans are only ahead because of superior goal difference).
