It has not taken long for URA to begin scheming in the market after the closure of the season with likely departures from Lugazi appear to be Robert Ssentongo and Savio Kabugo among others.

Ssentongo, last season’s Uganda Premier League golden boot winner with 18 goals and defender Kabugo have been put up for sale by the club.

In a statement on the club’s website, four other players who are still contracted with the club are also on sale.

The four more are defenders Samuel Senkoomi; forward Frank Kalanda and midfielders Yayo Lutimba and Derrick Tekkwo.

In an interview with Kawowo Sports, Coach Kefa Kisala confirmed the development stating that interested clubs are free to make offers.

“It’s true we have put the six on the market,” he said. “Any club willing to buy any of those should come on the table for negotiations” he added.

But he was non-commital in a situation that no buyer or clubs shows no interest.

In case no one shows interest, then we shall see the next step but we are confident all the players on the market are sellable.

Kisala, who took over the reins after the club sacked Moses Basena, also confirmed the club has released three players; midfielder Saidi Kyeyune and goalkeepers Brian Bwete and Sulait Luyima.

It’s a decision reached by the entire technical team and the recruitment committee headed by Vice Chairman Moses Kibumba agreed to it.

Contract renewal for three players

With the nine likely to leave, the club has also confirmed three players whose contract expired at the end of last season will be renewed.

These are midfielders Oscar Agaba and Feni Ali plus defender Jimmy Kulaba.

Masaba joins technical team

In the same communiqué, long serving skipper Simeon Masaba has been retired and now promoted to be part of the coaching staff.

“He has been a loyal servant and we want to offer him a soft landing by joining the technical team,” said Kisala.

The soft spoken coach also revealed that the decision was reached after thorough consultation with the former Uganda Cranes right back.

We had lengthy discussions with him on the matter and he duly accepted.

The elevation means the end of a long football journey for arguably one of the best right backs Uganda has produced.
