There are exactly 72 days left to that crucial AFCON Group D qualifier between Uganda and Comoros at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Given the significance of the match where Uganda Cranes requires maximum points to secure a slot to the African Cup of Nations, immediate training has started barely two months to the match.
Fifteen (15) players turned up for training on Monday at the KCCA Stadium in Lugogo Kampala.
There were three professionals and 12 home based players (8 of whom are Vipers players who won the Uganda Cup).
Yassar Mugerwa (Orlando Pirates), Hassan Wasswa Mawanda (Al Shorta) and Dannish based striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi trained in the two and a half hour session.
Head coach, Milutin Sredojevic hinted on the value of early preparations.
We want to keep close scrutiny of all the players available. We are now marking the close of active season. The Eastern regional tour will be the official close of players’ business until Mid July when the pre-season starts for most players.
He summoned right backs Joseph Nsubuga and Nicolas Wadada – two potential back ups for the suspended Dennis Iguma.
There are four players I have in mind who can play the right back.
Training for the Mbale match continues on Tuesday.
