Uganda trail Namibia 21-12 in their opening game of the Rugby Afrique (CAR) Tier 1A competition at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds despite starting on a high note.
Uganda’s first chance to get the lead fell to Philip Wokorach but his penalty went wide. If Namibia’s back row wanted to grab the bull by the horn, Uganda’s was never going take any chances they were up to the task.
Namibia’s Theuns Kotze also had his boot fail him after the visitors were rewarded a penalty. Pius Ogena intercepted a pass before breaking away and eventually touch down, Wokorach failed to convert as Uganda took a slim 5-0 lead.
Endless attacks from Uganda failed to extend the lead and were initially punished by Theuns Kotze who converted his own try for Namibia to lead 7-5.
Uganda looked like they had run out of steel as Rohan Kitshoff touched down before Thenus Kotze converted again, 14-5 Namibia led.
Rohan Kitshoff was proving too much for Uganda to contain as he touched down again, Thenus converted, 21-5 Namibia led.
Philip Wokorach’s resilience took a toll at Namibia’s defense as he touched down, Davis Kiwalabye converted, Uganda narrowed the gap 21-12.
The score could have been probably different for Uganda if it wasn’t for the poor handles of Micheal and Philip Wokorach in crucial moments.
