Mamelodi Sundowns and Uganda Cranes first choice goalkeeper Dennis Masinde Onyango rested a couple of training sessions since coming from South Africa.

His fitness levels and general health was a big bother to over the 40 million Ugandans ahead of the country’s most important match in over three decades with Comoros.

Perhaps, hours to the match at Nelson Mandela National stadium, Namboole, Onyango has been declared fit to play in the match.

The goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba worked with the gangly shot stopper in the Saturday sessions together with the three other goalies in the camp – Ismail Watenga, Benjamin Ochan and Salim Jamal Magoola.

Onyango was rested in Uganda Cranes’ goal-less draw with Kenya Harambee Stars on Tuesday.

Onyango’s timely race to full fitness is a very big boost to team Uganda ahead of the crucial AFCON 2017 qualifier.

He has been a very instrumental pillar for Uganda Cranes throughout the various qualification campaigns.

During the first leg against Comoros in Moroni City, Onyango saved a penalty in a match Uganda won 1-0 courtesy of Tonny Mawejje’s strike.

Uganda needs an outright victory past Comoros to book a slot to the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1978.
