Uganda Martyr’s secondary school Lubaga girls football team is destined to win the 2016 women football version of the La Mennais tournament currently underway at Kisubi, off Entebbe road.
The Kampala school has so far won their opening three games of the tournament, scoring a massive 19 goals and conceding none.
After winning 7-0 against St Edwards Bukuumi on match day one, they edged Caltec Academy 2-0 and on Wednesday booked a berth in the finals with a 10-0 victory against a hapless Comboni team.
Nulu Nanyanzi, Gloria Namugerwa and Rashida Nankya all scored a brace apiece for Uganda Martyrs with Shamira Nassuna netting the other against St Edwards.
Against a hard fighting Comboni team, Justine Namubiru and Rashida Nankya were on target.
Goal machines Nankya and Nanyanzi scored four goals each in the 10-0 humiliation of Comboni College.
The other two goals came off the feet of Gloria Namugerwa and Promise Ushindi.
Comboni survived a whitewash had Uganda Martyrs been more clinicial in front of goal.
Rogers Nkugwa, the head coach of Uganda Martyrs is optimistic his team will win the championship that climaxes on Sunday.
We have the impetus to win this tournament. In fact, we are our own enemies.
On Friday, we have the Airtel Rising Stars tournament at Rubaga, but we shall return on Saturday for the final game.
In the other girls’ football game played, St Edward Bukuumi shared the spoils in a goal-less draw with Comboni.
About eight schools are taking part in this tourney at St Mary’s College, Kisubi.
Schools with a catholic foundation and back ground play in the Le Mannais tournament.
It has been played since the colonial days.
