After thirty years, the CECAFA Women Football Championship returns to the fold with the 2016 edition that kicks off on Sunday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Seven countries are vying for the top honors with Women AFCON finalists Kenya the overwhelming favourites at the tournament.

Ethiopia and Rwanda arrived in Uganda on Saturday to become the last two countries to reach after the other four visiting nations had arrived.

Zanzibar, Kenya, Burundi and Tanzania arrived on Friday.

Smooth preparations:

CECAFA Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye assured the media during a press conference held on the tournament eve that every preparation bit had gone according to plan and anticipates a great tournament.

I am happy the women football returns to the CECAFA menu after 30 years of absence. We have planned well to have this tournament run.

Now that all the countries expected are finally here, the referees finished with fitness tests, i expect a great tournament

Opening Fixtures:

Burundi takes on Zanzibar in the opening fixture of the day at 2 p.m before hosts Uganda will play Kenya in the subsequent game at 4 p.m.

The tournament will run till the 20th September 2016 with all matches played at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
