As we earlier reported that Uganda Cranes will hold an intensive training camp in West Africa (Togo) ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Ghana, the local football body in the country, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that development.
FUFA communications manager, Ahmed Hussein confirmed the development today.
Speaking to Kawowo Sports from the FUFA Technical Center where he is part of the CECAFA Women Football Local Organizing Committee, Hussein said the purpose of the camp is to help the Ugandan team to acclimatize to the weather conditions in West Africa.
Yes, the Uganda Cranes will hold a high profile training camp in Lome, Togo in preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia match against Ghana on 7th October, 2016.
The training camp will also be followed by an international friendly match to be played on 4th October in Lome against The Togolese National Football team.
All Uganda Cranes players summoned to the team will fly direct to Lome for the important training camp
In May 2016, Uganda Cranes also held a similar training camp in Zimbabwe ahead of the AFCON 2017 qualifier with the neighboring Botswana.
The Cranes lost 2-0 to Zimbabwe in the international friendly held a few days. Towering defender Teenage Hadebe scored two familiar headers off Elisha Muroyiwa’s corner kicks taken in the 10th and 32nd minutes respectively.
Squad to be named next week:
The Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic will announce the squad on 21st September, 2016 at FUFA House during the weekly press conference.
Uganda is in the same group with Egypt, Ghana and Congo Brazzaville for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
