The 2016 University Football League first legs of quarter finals are set to commence next week.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday during a media breakfast held at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo in Kampala.

Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) president, Peninah Kabenge flanked by executive committee members Patrick Sebuliba and Vincent Kisenyi lauded sponsors of the tournament that started over four seasons ago.

“Sponsors world over play a fundamental role in sports development. I thank the various sponsors of the University Football League. This partnership is a win-win situation,” Kabenge stated.

Makerere University opens with bitter rivals Kyambogo on Wednesday, 21st September 2016 at Luzira play ground.

On the following day, Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi will host Uganda Christian University (UCU) at their Nkozi based campus.

The second set of the quarter finals will come on 28th September 2016 as Busitema plays Kampala University at Busitema campus.

The following day (29th September 2016) football mad Gulu town residents will have a unique feel of University Football as Gulu University hosts Nkumba.

The return legs of the quarter finals will be played starting on the 12th October 2016.

Kisenyi acknowledged the competitive spirit of the league that has witnessed up country universities like Gulu and Busitema make the last eight stage.

“Seeing universities from upcountry like Gulu and Busitema have reached the quarter finals at the expense of defending champions MUBS shows competition,” Kisenyi noted.

The semi finals will also be played on a home and away basis starting 26th and 27th September before the return legs on the 2nd and 3rd November 2016.

The third place play off and finals are ear marked for 12th November 2016.

MUBS are the defending champions.
