Weatherhead [M] produced an outstanding display on Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo to thump Kampala Hockey Club 4-1 as they reduced the point gap at the top of the table to nine.

Benon Lukyamuzi’s 14th minute finish set Weatherhead – who lost 3-2 to Simba a fortnight ago – on their way before missing a good opportunity to make it two three minutes later.

Habib Sewava leveled matters in the 29th minute, but Vincent Kasasa added the second with a smartly taken 32nd minute strike to hand Weatherhead a deserved lead heading into halftime.

Moses Tushabe then scored for the first time this season as he rolled in the third in the 46th minute before Ashraf Tumwesigye set the seal on the victory with 14 minutes to full time as Weatherhead hoping to dethrone Wananchi from the top sailed to a convincing win.

With only six games to the end of the league, the win resurrected Weatherhead’s slim chances of winning the title for the first time in five years having faltered against Simba.

Defending champions Wananchi lead the table with 26 points while Weatherhead are placed second with 17. The two sides face off next weekend on Saturday in their next game in what will be a title decider.
