Three weeks ago, we reported on how close Express had come to signing a mega shirt sponsorship deal.
The day has come to pass after the six-time league champions entered a partnership with arguably the leading Pay TV on the continent, DSTV worth 305million Ugx.
Speaking to the media at Golf Course Hotel where the partnership was launched, Chairman Multi Choice, Steven Musoke said they are happy to associate with a pioneer brand as far Ugandan football is concerned.
“As pacesetter, we are pioneers and leaders in Pay TV and so we do understand what a pioneer brand means,” stated before adding. “In terms of football, that brand is Express and I must say, it was an obvious choice to partner with them.”
Asked why of all teams, they chose to partner with the Red Eagles, Musoke, who admitted to being an Express fan since its birth said.
We looked at all teams and there was better mileage with the Express than any other team. Besides, their management looks credibility with Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi in charge.
He also hinted at the fact that this sponsorship doesn’t merely end with the Wankulukuku side but also aimed at promoting sport in the country.
We are here today not only to celebrate our sponsorship of Express FC but also to make sports and football in particular a better sport in Uganda.
On behalf of Express, Kiyingi was delighted and reminded their new partners that they are not taking the sponsorship lightly.
We do not take lightly your commitment. It serves as a great reminder of our legendary position in the soccer fraternity and we are geared to continue working tirelessly as we seek to climb up the table. We shall not disappoint.
She took a jibe at the people who were asking why Express had no sponsor yet most clubs have got saying they had to be careful with their choice.
There was a lot of pressure from people asking about sponsors, but we were critical enough in making our choice, we didn’t want to fall for every tom and dick
Meanwhile, the Pay TV promised to work closely with the club’s management to boost the team’s spirit by awarding best player of the month throughout the season.
