Soana 1-2 Sadolin
Soana missed out on a chance to go second in the Uganda Premier League as Norman Ojik inspired Sadolin Paints to their third victory of the campaign with a 2-1 win at Kavumba Recreational Ground on Tuesday.
After a humdrum and disappointing first half that saw only one shot on goal managed by the hosts, the scanty fans who attended the match witnessed a different second half when the game resumed as both sides took a go at each other.
The hosts had their chance first through a counter attack that involved right back Sirajje Turyamuhebwa, Davis Ssali and Rahmat Kagimu in the 47th minute, but goalkeeper Franco Oringa was alert to save his side.
Shortly after, it was Didi Mohammed’s turn to come to his side’s rescue with his fine save, but that was it for him as his defence let him down.
The Painters’ first goal came in the 55th minute from the penalty spot after defender Ibrahim Kiiza handled the ball inside the area. The stocky Ronald Lukungu rose up to the test and sent Didi the opposite side as he smartly found the back of the net to give his side the lead.
Soana, showing signs of a team wanting to maintain their unbeaten record at home attacked relentlessly, and came close five minutes later with Allan Kayiwa’s free-kick from 20 yards, but the effort flew just over the bar.
Three minutes later, however, the points were wrapped up for Peter Kirumira’s side as Ojik- scoring his third successive goal and his fourth of the season- capitalized on the hosts’ poor defending to slot in the eventual winning goal.
Soana pulled one back in form of a penalty through substitute Hamis Kitagenda after Kayiwa was brought down by substitute Bruhani Matovu in the 86th minute, but that goal came just too late for the home team to stage a comeback as Sadolin held on to register their third win of the campaign while ending Soana’s unbeaten run of eight games.
The result meant the Jinja side rose a place to tenth with 14 points while Soana stayed put in the fourth position.
