Several Uganda Cranes players that were part of the team that helped the nation qualify for AFCON 2017 finals remain in catch-22 over delayed bonuses from State House.

A couple of weeks ago, H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni promised to pay bonuses for players and officials who were part of the team and just last week, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed the president has fulfilled his promise.

“We are in touch with State House over the transfer of the players and officials bonuses on to their accounts,” said The FA spokesperson Ahmed Hussein Marsha before adding;

Some players and officials have received their bonuses but we shall ascertain the exact details when the process is completed and release an official statement.

A week later, Kawowo Sports understands that although a big fraction has been cleared, some players are yet to receive anything on their accounts.

One player who referred anonymity was astonished at the developments querying the manner which has seen some of his colleagues that were unused substitutes get paid before some that had minutes in the campaign.

As a player, I have been patient given FUFA told us it’s a process but I am now afraid I may not get my pay. How someone who didn’t play a minute gets before some of us leaves us in a disarray.

When contacted to comment on the matter, Hussein said FUFA is yet to deviate from the statement they issued seven days ago.

“We issued a statement last week and that remains it,” he said thus an implication that another statement will be issued after process is done and dusted.

Meanwhile, another player denied the process being ongoing revealing that his inquiry into the matter from State House showed the process was complete.

I have someone inside there who told me the process was done and only names forwarded by the FA were cleared.

Norah Nassimbwa, a state house official who is normally entrusted with finances as regards to the national team and FUFA couldn’t comment on the matter insisting she isn’t in position to do so.

“I am not in position to comment on the matter,” she stated when contacted.

Kawowo Sports’ investigations into which players are not paid yet indicate that the KCCA trio of Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Robert Ssentongo and Brian Majwega are yet to see anything on their respective accounts.

Others are Proline’s Edirisa ‘Torres’ Lubega, Sonderjsyke’s Emmanuel Okwi as DR Congo based Davis Kasirye.

Free State Stars’ Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza as well as Vipers right back Nicholas Wadada plus midfielder Hassan Wasswa Mawanda are also not paid yet with the latter’s payment going to another account thanks to mistaken identity.
