Rugby Premiership: Heathens vs. Pirates -4.30pm, Kyadondo

Buzz Pirates had their hopes of winning a piece if silverware ruined by a last minute try from Heathens captain Michael Wokorach in the final of the Uganda cup two months ago.

The two finalists have since gone on to dominate the first turn of the Rugby Premiership with Heathens leading while Pirates follow.

“Such is the nature of sport,” a disappointed Marvin Odong revealed to Kawowo Sports after the loss to Heathens in the finals.

Despite that loss, Pirates earned respect from the entire fraternity and their exploits have won them a lot more fans this season than before.

The two sides face off again at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds with Heathens protecting a 6-game unbeaten run while Pirates look to avoid a second straight loss.

Heathens defeated Rhinos 22-17 last weekend to leapfrog Pirates, who fell to Kobs on the same day.

Bobby Musinguzi and the new breed of players at Pirates have played at Kyadondo this season and defeated Toyota Buffaloes early in the season and will be expected to put Heathens’ unbeaten run to test.

Timothy Kisiga, Isaac Massa and Burron Kasozi, have been in good form to supplement Ivan Magomu, Conrad Wanyama and Odong to push Pirates in their quest for a first ever league title.

The two sides played to a 17-all draw at Kyadondo last season with Pirates playing the bigger part of the game with a man down after Eric Butime saw red in the first half.

Both Wanyama and Magomu didn’t start the game after arriving late for the game but Pirates held on to get something out of the game.

Heathens top the 10-team log with 28 points after six games while Pirates are just 2 points off the pace and could go top of the table with a win over last year’s runners up.
