Rugby Premiership:

Heathens vs. Kobs -5pm, Kyadondo

Kobs could find themselves 10 points off the pace in the title race if they fail to contain Heathens when the two sides meet Friday at Kyadondo Rugby Ground.

The defending champions endured a tough start to the season which involved an unusual loss to Rhinos at Legends.

“It’s a chance for us to try and close the gap and we shall do our best to win the game,” Kobs fly half James Ijongat told Kawowo Sports ahead of the game.

After a dismal start to the season, Kobs lost ground and only occupied second place after their seventh game of the season.

The side however, gathers confidence from the fact that they are yet to lose a game since the appointment of Edmund Tumusiime as the interim coach late last year.

Kobs have registered three straight win since Tumusiime replaced Dal Miriko at the helm.

They defeated Makerere Impis, Pirates and Warriors to rediscover their form.

Tumusiime, who played part of the game against Warriors, is confident the team can do much more in the title race.

“The team is playing well but I know they can do much better,” he told this website.

The former Rugby Cranes halfback will be in charge of his first Kobs-Heathens game.

For Heathens, there isn’t much expected to change for a team that has won 7 games in a row and is enjoying life at the summit of the ten-team log.

“We shall play the game like it is a final because it will determine how we progress in the title race,” Heathens center Michael Wokorach revealed to this website ahead of the gigantic clash.

After seven rounds of games, Heathens top the log with 33 points while their rivals and Friday’s opponents Kobs are second with 28 points.

The group of players that featured at the recently concluded HSBC World Sevens Series in Dubai and Cairo will be expected to give the game the much needed hype.

Philip and Michael Wokorach alongside Lawrence Ssebuliba are expected to make a full comeback to action as Muhammad Athiyo’s charges look to maintain top spot.

Ramathan Govule, Adrian Kasiito and Alhadji Manano are also expected to give Kobs options in the derby.
