Gabon 1-1 Burkina Faso

Skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a penalty to make it two in two games as the 2017 AFCON hosts  Gabon were held to a 1-1 draw by Burkina Faso in a Group A tie played in Libreville on Wednesday.

It was Prejuce Nakoulma who had shocked the home crowd at the Stade de l’Amitie  with the early lead before Aubameyang’s leveler.

Qualification for the quarter-finals from the group goes to the wire with the last round of group games on Sunday.

Burkina Faso lost one of their key men, Jonathan Pitroipa, to injury early on but it was his replacement Nakoulma who grabbed the opening goal midway through the first half.

Goalkeeper Herve Koffi came charging off his line and took out Aubameyang.

The Borussia Dortmund star appeared to have pushed the ball too far in front of him but the Gambian referee had no choice but to point to the spot.

Aubameyang coolly converted the penalty for his second goal of the tournament after his effort against Guinea-Bissau at the weekend.

In the other Group A matche, Cameroon recovered from a goal down to overcome Guinea-Bissau 2-1.

The closing games of the group will come on Sunday, 22nd January 2017.

Cameroon will play Gabon as Guinea-Bissau will take on Burkina Faso. Both games will be played concurrently to avoid any sort of syndicate.

Any of the four countries could make it to the quarter finals.
