From his reaction after South African referee Daniel Frazer Bennett called for full time, Gabon team captain Pierre Emerick Emiliano Francois Aubameyang was so disappointed by the early AFCON exit.

Gabon played to a goalless draw with Cameroon as Burkina Faso defeated debutants Guinea Bissau 2-0 in Franceville to seal the quarter final slot.

As the majority of Aubameyang’s teammates collapsed and cried on the Stade De L’Amitie turf, he walked straight off, smacked a ball away before he was cooled down by a Gabon technical committee official.

The Dortmund stylish forward reflected back to the team’s  unconvincing preparations.

Our preparation was complicated. We didn’t start on the right date, we started later, we didn’t have time to prepare properly

We’re all disappointed. Of course the people are disappointed but in football the players are the first to be disappointed.

Gabon started brightly with Aubameyang missing contact of Denis Bouanga’s teasing ball inside the opening 5 minutes of the game.

Cameroon perfectly recovered but either sides failed to find the back the net.

Burkina Faso and Cameroon qualified as the Group A best teams with Guinea Bissau and Gabon sent crushing.

The 2017 AFCON hosts join the tournament debutants (Guinea Bissau) and the promising Uganda Cranes as the first three countries to be officially out of the tournament.
